About MeI came to woodturning as a hobby in 2002, after working in civil engineering for 17 years. I was now a housewife and mother, looking after my pre-school children. It was while attending a Wood craft event at Chatelherault Country Park with my family, that I saw a woodturning demonstration by John Gordon of Lanark. Watching John work the wood into a beautiful bowl sparked my interest and after talking with him, I signed up for night classes. It was in those first four classes that I was inspired by John's practical, easy-going and enthusiastic manner that I was hooked. I loved cutting into a piece of timber, rotating on the lathe, revealing the grain patterns and creating a form and shape to the piece. And taking home a beautiful bowl! I signed up for more classes with John and I bought a lathe, tools and other equipment to get me going. Since then I have been hobbying away making pens; candlesticks and tea-light holders; mushrooms and toadstools; bowls, goblets and vases; christmas trees and snowmen; etc. Prior to the birth of my children, I made stained glass mirrors, boxes etc but that got packed away to make room for them. Since having the space to work, I have made some stained glass mirrors and would like to incorporate this into future work. |
